How to Evaluate an IPO Before Applying
India has had a record number of IPOs recently, and it's easy to get swept up in listing-day hype. This score is a structured checklist — not a guarantee — to help you compare an IPO's fundamentals against its peers before deciding to apply.
What Each Factor Means
- Valuation (P/E vs industry): An IPO priced well above its industry average P/E leaves less room for post-listing upside.
- Revenue growth & margins: Consistent double-digit growth with healthy margins signals a durable business, not a one-off spike.
- Debt-to-equity: High leverage magnifies risk if growth slows after listing.
- Promoter holding: Promoters retaining a meaningful stake post-IPO signals confidence in their own business.
- Anchor allocation & subscription: Strong institutional (QIB) demand is historically a better signal than retail hype alone.
- Grey market premium (GMP): An unofficial, unregulated indicator of listing-day sentiment — directionally useful but not reliable on its own.
How to Check IPO Allotment Status
- Wait until the registrar publishes the basis of allotment after the issue closes.
- Open the registrar's official allotment page or the IPO section of NSE/BSE.
- Enter your PAN, application number, or demat details only on the official registrar or exchange website.
- Check your bank mandate for debit/refund and your demat account for credited shares.
Search terms such as IPO allotment status, IPO allotment date, and check IPO allotment often point to different stages of the same process. This page does not collect PAN, application numbers, or demat credentials; use the official registrar for the final result.
